AN ANNUAL trek across Dartmoor has raised more than £3,000 for charity this year, and organisers were delighted to hand some of the hard earned money over to one of their chosen charities at a recent cheque presentation.
The second annual Dartmoor Challenge Walk was held in September and attracted more than 80 walkers who took part in five different walks over the various distances across the moors to Princetown.
There was also a specific walk designed for younger people with complex physical needs in adapted wheelchairs.
The Dartmoor Challenge is a charity walk which raises funds for two charities each year.
This year's walk was in aid of the Barchester Foundation and Holidays for Heroes, Jersey. The Barchester Healthcare Foundation helps older people and other adults with a disability across England, Scotland and Wales.
They aim to make a difference by supporting practical solutions that lead to increased personal independence, self-sufficiency and dignity.
Holidays for Heroes is a Jersey charity that aims to provide a week's holiday in Jersey to any past or present member of HM Forces injured, in mind or body, while on active duty.
Organisers were overwhelmed with the response following the walk and the event raised in total, £3,100 which will be split equally between the two charities.
The Dartmoor Challenge Walk committee presented a cheque for £1,655 to Jeff Page-Bailey on behalf of Holidays for Heroes, Jersey, at the Burrator Inn, Dousland last month.
