THE Devon Association for Renewable Energy (DARE) has received funding from Dartmoor National Park?s sustainable development fund, to create a Dartmoor mill owners support network. Dartmoor has significant potential to develop micro hydropower as an alternative to wind power. There are a number of old water mill sites on Dartmoor that could be renovated and brought back into use to generate electricity. There is also scope to develop new hydro sites on Dartmoor. The concept of the Mill Owners? Support Network is to act as a forum for water mill/hydro site owners to share information and experience, support each other and help progress the development of micro hydro within the Dartmoor National Park. Any Dartmoor mill owner or landowner who thinks they may have a potential hydropower site is invited to record their expression of interest by contacting DARE before June 30. Replies will be collated and an initial meeting will be called within the following month. The address to write to is: DARE, 12a the Square, North Tawton, Devon, EX20 2EP, or telephone 01837 89200 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected]
