POLICE in Tavistock are appealing for information after someone endangered lives by tampering with the wiring of an electric gate.

The gate outside a house in Down Park Drive is a regular target for youths, who interfere with the electric switch, said police.

In the latest incident, on the night of November 9, the mains cable was pulled out of the switch box, exposing the live wire and causing a power cut in the house.

An engineer who came out to reset the fuse box in the house received an electric shock before discovering the exposed wires on the gate switch.

PC Simon Raeburn, of Tavistock police, said the most recent incident was potentially very dangerous.

?This has been going on for several months now, but this time the offender has actually pulled the wires out, which is very dangerous,? he said.

?Anybody reaching through the gate to try to press the switch could have been seriously injured.?

Police would like to talk to a teenage girl with long fair hair who has been seen on several previous occasions near the gates.

PC Raeburn urged anyone with information to contact him at Tavistock police station, quoting crime reference JT/03/1404.
