A NEW scheme aimed at providing stimulation for children with special needs and support for their families is now up and running at Parklands in Okehampton. Daisy?s Link to Leisure is the brainchild of Lynn Green, whose two-year-old daughter Daisy has Down?s Syndrome. Lynn now has a full programme of sessions prepared at Parklands ? and she is hoping that children and their families in the Okehampton area will really enjoy what is on offer. Lynn said: ?Speaking to health visitors and GPs and people like that I feel there is really a need for something like this in the Okehampton area. ?But it isn?t just for children with special needs ? any children are welcome ? it?s all about integrating special needs children so everyone benefits ? including parents.? In the Daisy?s Link to Leisure programme there is a mums? support group on Friday mornings between 11am and noon, which is completely free. Daisy?s Special Swim Club will start on Thursday July 20 and subsequent Thursdays, between 11am and noon ? this is for children up to the age of five. Daisy?s Musical Moves, which is taught by teachers from Parklands dance studio, is held on Fridays between 10am and 10.45am. Daisy?s Rumble Tumble, which involves lots of soft toy play and is aimed at children under the age of five, will start on Saturdays from July 22 and Daisy?s Swim Club, for children of any age, is also held on Saturdays between 5pm and 6pm. Lynn has negotiated a special concessionary rate of just £1.50 for all the children?s sessions.
