MUCH has recently been said about the problems of traffic in Whitchurch Road and the useless 'gateway' between Whitchurch and Grenofen.

The urbanisation of the landscape has also continued with the erection of the 'bike it — you'll like it' signs at various points.

I write as one who does bike it (and like it) to express my concern at the danger to cyclists of features like the gateway and the chicane on the way to Horrabridge, as well as the cycle-unfriendly nature of speed-humps, which several people have suggested for the Whitchurch Road.

If the authorities would like more people to cycle could they please give serious thought to cyclists' safety when planning traffic-calming measures.

(Actually, the parked cars in Whitchurch Road are as good a traffic-calming device as any.)

I should perhaps add that I also drive a car.
