OKEHAMPTON Cycle Club continued their summer time trial series last Wednesday on the 10 mile course starting at Bridestowe. Six competitors took part and Steve Podd achieved the fastest time with 26.43. Jacky Rice came second with 29.37, followed by Jon Short with 29.51. Results: S Podd 26.43; J Rice 29.37; J Short 29.51; A Thorne 31.04; N Williams 31.09; D Gribble 31.46. Club member Alan Thorne who is also a triathlete recently competed in his first half ironman event and was in Bournemouth last Sunday to compete in the Bournemouth International Triathlon against 800 entrants. The event started with a choppy open water sea swim of 1.5km, followed by a flat and fast bike course of 40km, with a final 10km coastal road run. Alan was pleased with his overall time of 2.27.25 made up of 30.54 for the swim, 1.08.45 for the bike and 47.46 for the run.
