NORTH Devon Wheelers are the team champions for 2005. Four members of the cycle club took part in the South West district 10 mile time trial championship at Tresillian near Truro last Sunday. Hopes for success were high in both the individual competition and also in the team classification. Mark Lees was one of the pre race favourite?s for the event after recently winning three rounds and the overall in a four race series run on the same course. Unfortunately, on the day his form was a little off and his finishing time of 23:18 was only good enough for fourth place. Ray Retter was an uncustomary third in his veterans class in a time of 24:13 and Steve Sage was again disappointed to only be able to post a time of 24:03. Phil Sage was the only member of the club who was happy with his time of 25:20, riding his first 10 mile time trial for several years and with the terrible weather it was a very respectable time. However any individual disappointment was put to one side when the times of the three fastest riders from the club were added together and it was realised that their aggregate time of 1:11:34 was quick enough to win them the team prize by more than a minute from second placed Camel Valley.
