IT WAS prize day at Callington Community College recently — only it was the school that collected the prize!
The college was presented with 8,102 Tesco schools vouchers handed in by customers at the store's Callington branch and has vowed to use them for sporting equipment.
Kate Harrison, director of sport at the college, said: 'It is vital that we educate youth to lead active, healthy lifestyles. A large population of the UK is inactive and so to encourage any sort of physical activity we start to create a happier, healthier workforce for our communities.
'Tesco as a business has taken this opportunity to impact on their community in a positive way — we will use the vouchers that have been kindly donated to use to buy equipment that will promote "active" breaktimes for all.'
Alan Woollcombe, Tesco community champion, said: 'I am delighted that students at Callington Community College can benefit through the Tesco voucher scheme, though it was entirely through the generosity of our customers that we managed to collect so many.'
