THE holder of table tennis's Bill Fogerty Trophy were knocked out in the semi-final by Okehampton.
Tavistock who lead won the trophy for the last five years, raced into q 2-0 lead wen Peter Hicks beat Barry Vaughan in straight sets and Martin Fowler beating Barry Denner. Nick Jackson pulled one back for Okehampton beating Roger Bowkett in Straight sets. Martin Fowler won the next in three legs against Barry Vaughan for a 3-1 lead. Nick Jackson made it 3-2 with another easy straight sets win over Peter Hicks.
Roger Bowkett beat Barry Denner in a hard fought three leg to but Tavistock 4-2 ahead. Nick Jackson completed his maximum with a fin win over Martin Fowler and Barry Vaughan made it 4-4 with a win over Roger Bowkett. In the final game Barry Denner won the match for Okehampton beating Peter Hicks 15-21, 10-21.
In the other semi-final Academy had an easier 7-2 win against the two-man North Wyke. Tom Misselbrook won the first game for North Wyke against Tom Pearce, but Academy raced into a 6-1 lead. Ben Hill took the 2nd game in straight sets against Ishaq Maim to level at 1-1. Ben Hill made it 3-1 in a hard fought game against Tom Misselbrook (18-21, 23-21, 22-20), while Tom Pengelly lost out to Tom Misselbrook to make the score 6-2. Tom Pearce beat Ishaq in the last singles 16-21, 21-10, 21-18 for a 7-2 win for Academy.
In the consolation semi-final Okehampton C beat Milton Abbot A 6-3 thanks to a fine maximum from Frank Cockburn. Michael Blatchford leveled at 1-1 doing well to beat Ivor Copley in Straight sets. Richard Rose beat Hardy Hopkins to put Okehampton 2-1 up. Tim Westcott leveled to score 2-2 against Ivor Copley. Frank Cockburn beat Hardy Hopkins to put Oke 3-2 in the lead. Michael Blatchford won his second game against Richard Rose to level at 3-3, Okehampton went on to win the last three games for a 6-3 win.
The league is due to start on October 30. Division one: Tavistock, Okehampton A, Bridestowe, North Wyke, The Mixtures, Academy, Calstock.
Division two: Okehampton B, Okehampton C, Anchorage, Horrabridge, Milton Abbot A, Milton Abbot B, Moretonhampstead.
