Lancaster Cup final

Played at Chagford CC

TAVISTOCK batted first with Phil Stephens and Steve John putting on 106 for the first wicket, Stephens eventually out for a superb 91.

Tavistock continued to pile on the runs with Jones making 20 and captain John Rich 11no. The final total of 183 was a daunting one for Hatherleigh.

But with the big Chagford ground runs were easy to accumulate. Best of the Hatherleigh bowlers was J Stacey who finished with 3-39 off his restricted 4 overs.

Hatherleigh started well with Downes and Withey sharing 70 runs. Tight bowling by Munday and Rose restricted the score.

Slow bowler Peter Jones was brought into the attack and proceeded to get a hat-trick in his second over, having just resumed playing after being out of the game for five seasons.

Tavistock eventually won easily by 31 runs, but all credit to Hatherleigh for their gallant chase of such a big total.

For spectators it was a mammoth 335 runs scored in 40 overs.

Thanks were expressed to umpires Bob Elliott and Rob Rawlings and the Lancaster committee for their work in organising the 23rd playing of this cup.

Man of the match award went to Tavistock?s Phil Stephens.

Next year?s final will be at the Ring, Tavistock, on July 16.
