Tavistock v Launceston

ON a damp wicket. Tavistock lost an early wicket but good sensible batting by Damian Cummins and Tim Pope got Tavistock back on track.

Both batsmen looked in good touch and playing on a wicket where runs were hard to come by were pushing Tavistock along nicely.

Tavistock then lost a couple of quick wickets and this left Mark Friend and Pope at the crease. Both batsmen then took their attack to Launceston playing some good shots all around the round and soon had Tavistock up towards the 100 mark. Friend was the first to go after making a good 35 and Pope followed soon later after a gutsy knock of 39.

A quick fire 20 not out from the impressive Luke Cummins meant Tavistock finished their innings on 139 for 8 off 40 overs.

Tavistock opened the bowling with Luke Cummins and Aidan Mason and both bowled well and tight to the stumps restricting the Launceston batsmen to few runs. Cummins then went on to produce a devasting spell of bowling taking five wickets in nine overs, conceding just 18 runs. Tavistock's bowlers continued to bowl well with Mason, Sam Willetts, Pete Jarman and Adam Chidzoy also picking up wickets courtesy of some good wicket-keeping by Rob Milligan and some good sharp fielding by Damian Cummins.

Launceston were eventually all-out for 60. Tavistock won the game by 79 runs.

Werrington v Tavistock

TAVISTOCK won the toss and elected to bat first. Tavistock opened the batting with Darren Chappell and Rhys Davies.

Both batsmen looked in good touch getting Tavistock off to a steady start putting 50 on the board after nine overs. Tavistock then lost a wicket and Mikey Cousens then joined Davies and both batsmen then showed why they are regarded as two of the hottest prospects in Devon cricket.

The pair played some exquisite shots all around the ground and it was Davies who reached 50 first with a huge six over mid-off. Both batsmen continued to bat superbly and it was Cousens who then reached his 50 with a text book cover drive for four.

Davies and Cousens continued to attack the Werrington bowlers before Davies was finally caught on the boundary for an outstanding 97 which included seven sixes.

Rob Milligan then joined Cousens at the crease and Cousens continued his assault on the Werrington bowlers finding the boundary at every opportunity. Cousens finally departed for superb 88 after being caught at mid-off. Milligan continued to push Tavistock along nicely and end their innings on 249 for 7 off 40 overs.

Tavistock opened the bowling with Johnny Smith and Sam Willets. Smith made the breakthrough in the sixth over when Davies produced a brilliant diving catch in the covers to dismiss Baker. Willetts also picked up a wicket in the next over dismissing Bailey after Milligan took a good catch in the slips.

A run-out by Rhys Davies then had Werrington three down with only 40 on the scoreboard.

Adam Chidzoy then introduced himself and Jamie Stephens into the attack and both bowlers produced a fine display of spin bowling picking up three wickets each courtesy of some good slip fielding by Davies and Milligan and some quality wicket-keeping by Cousens.

With Werrington on 99-9, youngsters Jenkins and Standbury put on 40 for the last wicket before Davies clean bowled Stanbury. Werrington were finally all-out for 139. Tavistock won the game by 110 runs.
