POETRY lovers all over West Devon may soon be seen running breathlessly behind public buses — trying to catch the final lines of original works pasted down their sides.
The famous Poetry on the Underground project, which brought a wider audience for the art in London, has been extended to buses all over the country in a bid to promote public transport.
Tavistock poet Ronnie Goodyer has had one of his poems selected for inclusion.
His poem, 'She Clicks the Keys of the Morning', is in a form called a Triolet, which runs to eight lines and has strict rules about rhyming.
'It's a known technical form rather than a bit of doggerel and it's complete — it makes sense — that's why I think it was selected,' he said.
Other, longer, works will be displayed in bus shelters, where people will probably have more time to read them.
It is hoped eventually to incorporate the poems in a book, together with other poems felt to be appropriate for those waiting for buses.
