CHERITON Bishop is holding its own version of the nationwide cultural Olympiad over the Diamond Jubilee weekend.

The village's medieval church will act as the backdrop for an exhibition and sale of local art. Many of the exhibitors will live in the immediate area, and the works cover a range of subjects, often reflecting on the beautiful scenery of the Devon landscape. Admission for the weekend is free, and tickets are also available for a preview event tomorrow (Friday).

The village hall will host an exhibition of local history. The life of people in Cheriton Bishop throughout the 20th century will be the main focus, with photographs and documents from the Devon Record Office on display.

The hall will also host a food and farming exhibition on Saturday, June 2, launching a new parish cookery book with around 50 recipes from local cooks.

An evening of Devon song and storytelling is on offer in the hall on Sunday, June 3, with a ploughman's supper and cider. There is a £2.50 entry fee.
