MORE than 200 walkers successfully completed a ten-mile walk from Vennford Reservoir to Princetown on Sunday, held to raise money for the Dartmoor Rescue Group.

The object of the walk was to visit 12 ancient crosses and two modern ones along the route. Although the weather was very cold with a strong wind, there were no drop-outs and all completed the walk in record time, with the first team arriving at the finish in under 3 hours.

Sue Britten, secretary of the Plymouth section of DRG, said: 'We had teams of all ages and capabilities taking part, including scouts, Royal Marine cadets, local job centre employees and Derriford hospital workers. The youngest person on the walk was just eight and the oldest well into their 60's.

' Congratulations to them all, and a big thank you from Dartmoor Rescue Group Plymouth Section for once again raising £900 towards our much needed funds.'

Sue said the group is arranging a brand new walk with a difference on Saturday July 31, this is a circular walk of 14 miles which is called Sunset, Sunrise Walk.

Sue said:'The aim of this walk is to leave as the sun sets and continue walking through the night with a full moon, a chance to see Dartmoor in a different light, there will even be a breakfast at the finish.'
