MILTON Combe Village Hall Judo Club has just returned from a twinning visit to the Kiai Club Brest, France. The few days were a tremendous success both in Judo and in extending the club's friendship with the French host families.
The judo club arrived on the Thursday. Friday was free to enjoy with the host families until 5pm when a two hour judo session took place.
Saturday morning was free with the host families until 2pm when there was a four hour interclub competition at Locmaria plouzané. This interclub competition was organised for all judo clubs within the area before Milton Combe's visit was planned.
But the guests were delighted when the Kiai Club Brest coach, Youenn LeTreut, invited Milton Combe Judo Club to take part. They were elated when the Devon club came away with one gold, one silver and three bronze medals. Quite an achievement for a little club considering the high standard of judo in France. It was certainly a bonus for Milton Combe club coach, Andy Lowther.
On the Sunday, the club was taken to the North Coast where members had a wonderful 'French style' picnic — the weather was perfect as it had been for the whole weekend — then it was back to Roscoff for the journey home.
To top the MCVHJC achievements on Sunday June 10 two of its young people — Kate Hanney and Michael Lowther, both aged 15 — went to Devizes for the West of England Open Championships and each came home with a bronze medal!
The club operates every Friday from 6.15pm until 7.45pm in the Milton Combe Village Hall.
