Charity friendly
Tavistock CC v Children's Hospice
South West
CHILDREN's Hospice South West charity match which took place at the Ring on Sunday raised a splendid £1,000 for this great cause on Sunday.
On a beautiful day made for cricket Tavistock won the toss and decided to bat.
Tavistock got off to a good start before James McGahey had Kerswell caught at Gully by Morgan for 13 Josh Stephens soon followed and a promising start had been flittered away when Cleave, Downham and Monger also returned to the pavilion — James McGahey ending up with impressive figure of 4-13.
At 44-5 Tavistock were in trouble but fine 60 from Jamie Stephens including two fours off the bowling of his dad Phil Stephens, put Tavistock back on track. A quick fire 23 from captain Sean Daymond and 21 from Aaron Churchill gave Tavistock a respectable 170 off their 40 overs.
In reply the hospice team got off to a good start with Morgan and Jake Luffman putting on 37 before Morgan was bowled by big turner from Leverock Kerwell.
Jake Luffman continued to compile runs including three huge sixes in a fine knock of 63 even when he and Pope (12) were out 'old pros' Steve Luffman (39) and captain John McGahey(33) steered the Hospice home to victory.
Organisers said a big thanks to all who helped, particularly match sponsor Plymouth Stone and ball sponsor Tavistock Hire.
