Francis Clark Devon League D division (W) Whitchurch v Ipplepen ON a surprisingly dry Saturday afternoon the toss was always going to be crucial so when Whitchurch skipper called corrrectly he had no hesitation in putting the visitors into bat on a slightly damp wicket. Lavis and Daymond for Whitchurch kept the score down with tight bowling backed up by another average fielding performance including two dropped catches. These proved expensive as Tuckett took full advantage and made an impressive 56 and his partner, Bowden making a steady 80. The opening pair put on 126 for the first wicket. With wickets in hand the middle order came in and smashed the ball around the ground, Ipplepen ending on 223 for 3. Only Lavis (0 for 24) in ten overs was able to stem the flow of runs. At the teatime interval, Barriball, the Whitchurch skipper, rallied his troops and demanded a response from his team. They did not let him down! The youthful opening pair of Newton (18) and Credicott put on a quick fire 41 to get the run chase off to a flier. After this the scoring slowed and two needless wickets fell leaving Whitchurch 75 for 3 and the outcome in the balance. Barriball then joined Credicott at the crease and these two then went on the attack. Although there was boundaries aplenty, the running between the wickets was almost ?telepathic.? This pair shared a 103 partnership in 17 overs and started to take the game away from Ipplepen. Barriball was finally out for a quickfire 54. Witcher then came in and made a brutal 30 not out and finished the job with Credicott, who carried his bat throughout to record a majestic 85. Whitchurch won by six wickets and took 16 points from the game. l On Saturday, Whitchurch host Chelston hoping to maintain their recent good form.
