Chudleigh Ladies 1

Tavistock Ladies 1

CHUDLEIGH are in a higher league than Tavistock so this friendly hockey game was always going to be strong.

The opening ten minutes were scrappy for Tavistock and it looked like the opposition were going to win comfortably. But Tavistock re-grouped and Susannah Harland, Sue Hornby and Becky Hutton made some excellent passes on the left which resulted in the opposition having to work harder in defence.

The first goal was awarded to Chudleigh who made a strong and powerful strike at the keeper. Tavistock picked up their game and for the latter part of the first half Steff Mills and Sandra Collar worked hard to prevent any major attack from the opposition.

The strong defence of Rebecca Creasy, Babs Horton and Fiona Dunn kept Chudleigh out of the D. Horton really hassled players off the back line.

The second half saw the opposition come out very strong but Tavistock rose to the occasion and Sue Cork was pushing the ball down the right wing with force and determination. An excellent strike from Cork allowed centre forward Judy Miller to make a good shot into the goal.

Emma Bowden made some good runs down the right wing, which forced the opposition to work harder than they might have anticipated.

It was due to the excellent goalkeeping of Rebecca Creasy, who made numerous good saves, that Tavistock were able to keep the finished score at 1-1.

Tavistock were proud of their standard and all players felt more confident for league matches.
