ESCAPING a fatal outcome was the driver of a silver Skoda which last Wednesday, April 30, left the B3357 from Princetown to Tavistock and crashed into a 10ft ditch approaching the Pork Hill Car Park. Captured on camera by Mike Kinsey of Princetown, the pictures show the severity of the accident which happened just after 12.30pm. The male driver, and sole occupant of the silver Skoda Yeti, was airlifted to Derriford Hospital with a suspected shoulder injury, after being cut free from the car. Retired police traffic officer Mr Kinsey told the Times that the vehicle flew through the air for around 20 metres and landed with enough force to cause the car to flip and spin over, and resulted in the engine becoming completely detached. Attending the scene were two fire crews from Tavistock, the heavy rescue vehicle from Middlemoor, police traffic units, and two Dartmoor National Park rangers who cleared away debris, and Keltek Motors recovery for the vehicle. Mr Kinsey said: 'In 12 years of traffic policing around this area I seldom saw a scene as amazing as this one. It goes to show how safe modern cars can be if seat belts are worn and luck favours you. 'This driver was incredibly lucky.'
