Okehampton U14s 7 Tavistock U14s 5 Okehampton ended their season with a satisfying win over their local rivals in a match played in good spirit with some excellent rugby at times from both sides. Tavistock had the wind at their backs for the first period and were soon camped in the Okehampton half, their backs making decisive ground in the centre giving them good field position. The pressure told in the end as a strong run from the tall Tavistock fly half broke a number of tackles to go over for the first score of the game, which was not converted. This seemed to galvanise Okehampton who definitely upped their game, dominating the scrum and making ground in the loose with runs from Thomas White and Lee Hughes. The rest of the first half was fairly even and Okehampton were satisfied with a one score deficit knowing they would soon have the wind behind them. Okehampton dominated field position in the early stages of the second half but good Tavistock defence kept scoring chances to a minimum. The Okehampton try eventually came as a Tavistock clearance kick didn't find touch, George Speake collected and fed Craig Dennis at speed down the touchline, who ran round the defence to score under the posts. The try was converted by Matt Johns. Tavistock enjoyed some good posession but squandered their chances with a number of handling mistakes from their quick and skillful three quarters. Okehampton replied with some good back play of their own, Johns fed Dennis in a slick move but a knock on denied him what would have been a decisive second score. The whole Okehampton team were excellent for the rest of the game with Buster Francis dominant in the loose play ensuring a positive end to a long season.
