WEST Devon and Torridge Conservative MP Geoffrey Cox has been shortlisted for an award for the best maiden speech of the new Parliament. Mr Cox?s speech was one of four selected by the House Magazine out of the 124 speeches which were made by the newly elected MPs. The House Magazine is the internal publication of the House of Commons and is read by all MPs and Lords. Its maiden speech of the year award is ?awarded to the MP who delivered the most outstanding maiden speech in the Commons.? On hearing that he had been shortlisted Mr Cox said: ?I am delighted to be one of the four candidates nominated for this award. It is an honour to be chosen by fellow members of parliament, from the Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats, as well as my collegues in the Conservative Party.? The winner will be selected in a postal vote of all MPs at a ceremony in London on December 8.
