Tavistock U16s 27

South Molton U16s 17

A TAVISTOCK team, with many players playing out of position, ran out winners of a tremendous match played in atrocious conditions.

The home side opened the scoring after a South Molton chip from their own 22 was picked up by Tavistock and worked across to Jack Bond to touch down in the corner.

The visitors hit back and a hack through a dithering defence saw them score.

A series of five metre scrums saw Tavistock held up, but eventually Rufus Gould worked the ball to Tom Thursby, who burst through the defence to score.

A storming run by Elliot Northmore saw him return the South Molton kick-off back over halfway and Tavistock made ground towards the corner where Sam Lindsey dived over after taking the ball from a ruck.

The visitors replied with another scrappy try after Tavistock failed to clear a high ball.

Early in the second half an interception by Mark Friend in his own 22 saw him sprint the length of the pitch but a slip five metres out saw the ball knocked on. After a turnover at the scrum, a drive for the line resulted in Lindsey diving over for his second try.

A tap penalty five metres out saw the visitors get their third try to narrow the score.

Tavistock clinched the match after a knock on resulted in a scrum five metres out. The put in by South Molton came out of the scrum over the line and ever alert scrum half Chris Cowie ran and dived on the loose ball for his first try for the club. Josh Stephens kicked a tricky conversion to round off a tremendous team performance.
