FIRE crews from Tavistock and Bere Alston rescued a cow which had fallen down a mineshaft last week.

It took three hours to lift the animal from the 12-foot shaft near Bere Ferrers last Thursday afternoon, using lines and a harness.
The cow was unharmed in the accident.
