MORE than 2,000 young people from all over Devon will converge on Tavistock on Saturday (July 10) to take part in the county's largest junior sporting and cultural event.

Devon Games to Inspire is hosted by West Devon Borough Council, and among the VIP guests attending will be Olympic silver medalist and British modern pentathlete Heather Fell, who will be presenting trophies to the winning teams.

Running for more than ten years, the event is an annual celebration to promote the links between culture and sport which is particularly important in the run-up to London 2012.

The Games will be held at the new facilities at Tavistock College and Crowndale Recreation Ground where participants compete in a variety of sports and activities which include traditional team sports, water-based sports, athletics and street sports.

In addition, there will be dance showcases, a samba and African drumming band alongside international trail bike rider Andrei Burton on hand to wow the crowds with his nail-biting stunts.

The event is funded by a number of organisations, including RELAYS (Regional Educational Legacy for Art and Youth Sport), Team Devon, the Devon Economic Partnership, Mansbridge and Balment, RM Builders, NPS Group and local authorities from across the county and has been organised this year by West Devon Borough Council.
