?IF Daniel O?Donnell is the brightly scrubbed face of British country music, Hank Wangford is its guilty conscience, its dark and troubled grubby soul.? So its says on Hank Wangford?s website ? and West Devon audiences will be able to see for themselves how true that statement is, when the singer and his band, The Lost Cowboys, play the Clinton Hall at Merton this Saturday, July 28. Hank, aka Dr Sam Hutt, has fronted a number of country bands since the 1970s, and inspired other musicians such as Billy Bragg and The Alabama Three. He has also spread the country word through TV series such as Big Big Country and The A to Z of C&W. As well as his songs and books, Hank writes travel articles for national newspapers and has completed several radio series for the BBC. Aside from writing music and touring with his band, Hank is still a practising doctor and continues to work in sexual healthcare and contraception. He lectures and trains doctors and nurses around Britain and has trained in Georgia and Bosnia during the war. Hank believes laughter, tears and music are the greatest healers ? that?s why he loves country music. Doors open at the Clinton Hall at 7.30pm. Admission by ticket only, priced £10, from 01805 603441.
