A ROOM at West Devon Borough Council's offices at Kilworthy Park in Tavistock has been renamed to mark 30 years of twinning with a German town.

The members' room, which is used by councillors for their official work, has been renamed 'The Wesseling Room'.

West Devon has been twinned with the town, south of Cologne on the Rhine, for the past three decades.

The mayor of West Devon, Cllr Bill Cann, unveiled the naming plaque last week.

He said: 'I am really pleased that we have been able to make this small gesture in recognition of this significant anniversary.

'Without any cost to the council, we have been able to reflect our ongoing links with Wesseling and create a permanent reminder of our twinning relationship.'

In October, Cllr Cann recorded a video message which was sent to his civic counterparts in Wesseling to mark the anniversary.
