BERE ALSTON's Hope Cottage Café, which is run by volunteers from the Bere Alston United Church, last week became part of the information superhighway. The café, which is open six mornings a week, now has laptops available so people can access the Internet. At present there is nowhere else in the village where people can access the world wide web and the management committee hopes this new initiative will be of use to the many people who do not have Internet access at home. Phyllis Friend, a regular customer, was the first to make use of the facilities last Friday. She thought the new laptops were a great idea. 'I have wanted to try out the Internet for a long time and now I can find out all about it,' she said. Laptops can be hired for £1 an hour during the opening hours of 10am to 12.30pm, from Monday to Saturday.
