THE 2443 (Okehampton) Air Cadets held a grand opening day to celebrate the completion of their new garden area and barbecue recently.

The event was attended by many friends of the squadron, including commandant of Okehampton Military Camp Lt Col Tony Clark, mayor of Okehampton Cllr Michael Morris, chair of Devon County Council Cllr Christine Marsh, and wing commander and officer commanding of Plymouth and Cornwall Wing Air Training Corps, Mike Symons.

The garden and barbecue was opened by Col Clark, who was presented with a framed copy of the squadron crest as a token of their appreciation for his support over the years.

The cadets and guests were able to try their hand at climbing the rolling wall, provided for the day by the Royal Marines Visibility Team.

A number of displays had been prepared by the cadets and staff and guests were able to walk around to see what type of activities the cadets can participate in during their service in the corps.

The squadron is always on the lookout for new members. Anyone aged between 13 and 17 is welcome along to look around.

The squadron parades on a Monday and Thursday, from 7pm to 9.30pm.
