Okehampton U10s 45

Launceston U10s 30

THIS was excellent all round performance by all the boys after a slow start last week.

There was good hard work by the forwards, securing ball for the backs to run with. Sam Ewen started the scoring after a fine break by Matthew Johns and Tom Fogerty, giving Ewen the space to score.

The forwards' hard work in the scrum led to Johns scoring the first of his two tries.

With the backs performing at their best both wingers were starting to get in on the game, giving Jamie Hignett a couple of tries and Tom Aylen also getting on the scoresheet.

Daniel Curtis again tackled everything and Tom Fogerty's play-making led to some fine moves.

With good scrummaging, stealing the ball, driving through the middle and supporting play, the forwards, Thomas White, Buster Francis, Felix Gardener and Christopher Courtier gave the backs plenty of ball to play with, allowing Francis to score his first try of the season.

Ollie Kirby had a try disallowed near the end.

OKEHAMPTON came out of the starting blocks with the forwards producing a stream of well presented and quick ruck possession for the three quarters. Burrington wrestled his way over the line for the first try which North converted.

The restart saw fly half Rob North sprint over for the second try.

With confidence running high, the Okes began to play really attractive rugby.

Scrum half Radnor and No 8 Wonnacott were linking well, giving the backs that extra few yards of space to work in from which Dart was able to launch several attacks.

With North kicking cleverly, the Okes were again putting considerable pressure on the Launceston defence. After slick work from the back row, Wonnacott drove for the line and delivered a well timed pass for Harding to score an excellent team try which brought the half time score to 17-0 to the Okes.

Changes were made at half time and throughout the second half to accommodate all squad players.

The disruption this caused allowed Launceston to force their way back but although they started to win a regular supply of possession the Okes' defence stifled most of the attacks .

The Okehampton three quarter line proved difficult to penetrate with wingers Wawman and Henderson both standing their ground and making the tackles count.

The Launceston forwards, playing with greater confidence, started to take play upfield and after a period of pressure close to the Okes' line, their perseverance paid off with a try from their wing forward.

This was an excellent performance against determined and resilient opposition. Some of the team plays and ball handling from the Okes were top class - definitely the performance of the season so far.

This week Bude at home, kick-off 11am. Meet 10am.

THE first 25 minutes were hotly contested with both sides attacking then defending. Okehampton's lineout was excellent with West jumping and stealing opposition ball and delivering clean ball on his own throw.

Sizmur at scrum half harrased his opposite number and along with Herrod-Taylor at number 10 stifled repetitive attacks down the fly half channel. Woods in the centre ran well always crossing the gain line with Cox and Turner driving into the Launceston rucks.

Cox got under the ball to deny Launceston three tries before the pressure told and the home side went blind from a five-metre scrum and drove over from the subsequent maul.

Okehampton rallied in the dying minutes of the half and were awarded a penalty five metres into the Launceston half and 20m in from touch. Going for goal the crowd were dismissive until Herrod-Taylor struck the ball sweetly between the posts 50 metres away for three points to end the half 5-3.

Launceston found their way ten minutes into the second half as Okehampton were repeatedly penalised for offside in the rucks. Driving rucks and mauls gave the first try and spinning the ball to their right wing gave the second as he drove over in the corner.

In the last five minutes Okehampton worked their way upfield from successive penalties with Cox recieving a long pass to outflank the defence and speed past the tackles for a try.

Man of the match: Gary Sizmur.

Okehampton U13s 10

Launceston U13s 22

THIS was not the best performance by Okehampton. They struggled in the first half, playing into a strong breeze, to clear their own line.

Launceston's forwards drove well and won most of the rucks but Okehampton tackled well and held them to two tries in the first half.

Turning round at 12-0 down, Okehampton's forwards started to win better ruck ball. Tom Browne kicked deep into the Launceston half and there was good chasing by Rory Honeychurch, David Binns, Josh Noon, Richard Friend and Jake Chisholm, to put the Launceston backs under a lot of pressure.

From the resulting scrum Robert Long picked up and drove over for a try.

Launceston conceded a penalty, with Will Heard passing to Robert Long to crash over to score.

Launceston scored two more tries.

This week at home to Bude.
