St Austell Seconds 2
Tavistock Ladies Firsts 1
TAVISTOCK ladies? hockey team opened with strong attacking from Kath Collar and Steff Mills enabling them to put the opposition under pressure.
Laura Armstrong hit some excellent strikes into the D but the ball was not going into the net. The rare occasion the opposition broke through they stood little chance of entering the D as Sue Hornby and Babs Horton hassled players off the back line.
Lisa Butler had a good debut performance and fed the ball up the pitch to Sue Cork who had good strikes at the keeper.
The opposition had a lucky break and managed to sneak a goal past keeper Rebecca Creasy.
The second half showed a more determined Tavistock with Fiona Dunn, Sue Hornby and Kath Collar battling to keep the ball in the attacking D. Dunn again had numerous runs up the pitch along with Collar, both players outrunning their opponents.
St Austell scored another goal despite it being mainly an attacking game in Tavistock?s favour.
With only one minute to go, Cork, Bowden, Hutton and Armstrong really went for it in the D and Cork was able to find the gap which had been hiding for most of the game.
Player of the match: Kath Collar. This week Tavistock are home to Launceston at 12.30pm.
Tavistock Ladies 2nd XI 2
Plymouth Ladies 3rd XI 2
TAVISTOCK Ladies second hockey team travelled to Ivybridge for a close encounter with a strong squad.
Tavistock, although disheartened after an early goal from Plymouth, were quick to get back into the game. With skilled passes between the middle and getting the ball wide, Sarah Barratt, Kath Collar and Gaynor Pollard pushed the ball hard into the Plymouth defence and with a precise shot, Lisa Butler equalled the score.
Tavistock continued to battle hard and after close clearances and tackles from a defence of Jo Solman, Nell Trotter and Judy Ricketts they kept the score level.
After play resumed from the half-time break, Tavistock were continually attacked. After many failed attempts, Plymouth eventually got the better of Tavistock?s defence to put them 2-1 ahead.
With a strong link between Tavistock?s forward and half players the team worked hard and with fast and furious passes from left to right, Sarah Barratt and Robynne Honey passing through the defence, set up Collar to equalise.
