Launceston Ladies 1
Tavistock Ladies 1
WITH only ten players in the starting line up, Tavistock ladies? hockey team knew they would have to pull out all the stops.
Tavistock made some strong attacks from Emma Bowden, Sue Cork and Kath Collar and it was not long before they scored the first goal. Becky Hutton struck a good ball into the D and Cork was quick to get on the end of it and put it past the keeper.
Numerous short corners were awarded against Tavistock, but the strong defence of Fiona Dunn, Rebecca Creasy, Jill Courts, Susannah Harland and Collar prevented Launceston from taking advantage.
Steph Mills was a key player in switching the ball over both sides of the pitch.
With determination, Tavistock went back onto the pitch for the second half, but the marking which was so evident in the first half seemed nowhere in sight and through losing players, the opposition was allowed to equalise.
Tavistock went on the attack with Armstrong narrowly missing a goal.
Bowden, Collar and Hutton worked hard on the forward line and held their ground to put Tavistock as the more attacking team.
Jill Courts and Susannah Harland blocked any major attack on the left and if this failed them Dunn and Mills had the spare players covered.
This week Tavistock are away to Falmouth 2 with a 2pm push back.
