LOOSE change collected in West Devon and East Cornwall was handed over at a fundraising evening in Callington recently. More than £400 had been collected by The Copper Trust over the past 18 months to support various education projects in Ghana. The trust was set up in 2002, with a widespread network of people putting aside their small change for the cause. The trust has no overheads or administration costs and operates in West Devon and the surrounding area. Adam Musgrave, originally from Bere Ferrers, and his wife Katrine, initiated the trust and were involved in linking schools in the area with some in Ghana as part of a millenium project. They are now living in Lesotho in Southern Africa, where they are working with Skillshare. The money was handed over at a Tamwed event hosted by Jane Murray and Ian Richards, when Rebecca Fynn from the Methodist school in Akim Achise in the eastern region of Ghana received the money from the trust. Mrs Fynn is the wife of a local pastor. She teaches in junior school and works as a counsellor for her church as well as raising her own family of seven children, five of whom are adopted. The money will be used to support needy students through senior education and university.
