YELVERTON U15s Whirlwinds won their first round cup match in a high scoring game at Harewood House, beating Plympton by 12 runs.
Yelverton's openers David Ackford and Ben Pearson started in confident fashion scoring at four runs an over until Pearson (11) was caught off O'Higgins with the score on 26. Dan Cooper joined Ackford in the middle and the pair put on a fine 104 off the last 10 overs. Ackford finished up on 73 not out with 11 fours and a six, and Cooper reached his 50 when he deposited the last ball for six to take him to an unbeaten 51 in a final total of 153-1 off 20 overs.
In reply Plympton suffered a set-back as skipper Rossouw went first ball, caught by Dan Cooper at backward point off Ackford. Plympton's batsmen were never allowed to score freely as some disciplined bowling from Jay Warner (1-17 off 4), Will Johnson (0-23 off 4) and Cameron Dawe (3-25 off 3) kept a lid on the run rate. Some spirited hitting from Plympton's Ali Wass (22 no) and a well played 60 from Charles O'Higgins got them close but they fell 12 runs short on 141-7. Jay Warner took two catches.
