Kelly College 13 West Buckland School 12

KELLY College hosted North Devon rivals in wet and slippery conditions in Tavistock. From the outset mistakes were going to be inevitable with both sides defending with great passion, and much ball was either turned over for both sides or lost in the contact situation. This led to a disrupted contest.

Kelly were the dominant force, with more territory throughout the game, but failed to really convert pressure into points. The deadlock was broken when number eight Tristan Hext supported well on the outside to go over in the corner. James Falvey, Kelly's full back, converted superbly with a dropped goal to take a 7-0 lead. Kelly quickly replied with another James Falvey penalty, just before West Buckland broke from their own half to score under the posts to take the half time score to 10-7 to the hosts.

In a second half littered with penalties, the majority against Kelly and which continually put them under pressure, West Buckland eventually scored in the corner with minutes to go.

At 12-10 to the away team, Kelly did not panic. They slowly worked their way up field and James Falvey duly slotted the winning penalty to secure victory. Devon Cup U16s

Kelly College U16s 35

Devonport HS U16s 8

KELLY College in this quarter final cup game eventually won convincingly. The match was a battle of the forwards in wet conditions where it was extremely hard to run the ball wide, on a very slippery surface.

Both sides tackled as if their very lives depended on it, and this hard approach to the game saw a very closely contested first half with the score at 8-3 to the home team.

The stronger Kelly pack then started to take control of the game in the second half and mistakes were minimised which eventually resulted in four tries being run in before the final whistle, by the superior Kelly U16 side.

Devonport were rewarded with an interception try just before the end.

Kelly now take on Plymouth College next week in the semi-final.
