THE first sponsors of Tavistock Parish Church were entertained in the church last week at a special cheese and wine evening.
More than 20 representatives from the sponsoring organisations in and around Tavistock enjoyed an interesting and humorous guided tour of the church by historian Joan Torvell, before sampling local cheese and wine.
Dr John Rea, chairman of the Friends of St Eustachius, said: 'This was the first evening in what will be an annual occasion.
'We now have twenty sponsors of the parish church, and this was one way of saying a warm "thank you" to them. It was an extremely convivial evening.'
The Rev Michael Brierley, priest-in-charge of Tavistock, said: 'I continue to be highly impressed by the range of our sponsors.
'They now include a school, a bed-and-breakfast establishment, a nursing home, a natural health centre, and the Stannary Brass Band.'
Organisations or businesses wishing to join the growing sponsors of St Eustachius' can contact the parish office for an application form on [email protected]">[email protected] or 616673.
