Tavistock Seconds . . 18

Kingsbridge Seconds . 6

AFTER a shaky start Tavistock won this encounter convincingly. The visitors scored first with a well struck penalty after Tavistock were penalised for going over the top.

Tavistock forwards, led by Neil Cole and John Wakem, then took control, winning good ball and driving the opposition back, allowing scrum half Ambrose McGuire to release the backs who always looked dangerous.

But it was number 8, Andrew Griffiths who scored — the first of his two tries — crashing over from close range, leaving the score at 5-3 at half-time.

Playing down the slope in the second half Tavistock were always in control and the majority of the game was played in the visitors' half. The constant pressure caused the visitors to give away two penalties which were both converted by Bridgewater. But again, it was Griffiths, scoring after good work by the forwards, who touched down off a rolling maul near the posts. Bridgewater added the extras.
