Tavistock v Axminster TAVISTOCK stretch their lead at the top of Division 1 of the Devon League following an easy win over Axminster, in a rain-delayed game at the Ring, by seven wickets. Axminster started well, with Larcombe and Maybell putting on 40 for the first wicket. Good bowling by Andy Gauler and Kevin Willcock saw them finish on 154-7 after 38 overs. Tavistock?s run machine Arnie Searle and Peter Jones again opened the batting with a superb stand of 112. Searle, following his three unbeaten hundreds, scored 83, making it look very easy on not the best of wickets. With Searle out Jones took over, making a superb 54 not out. With the second half of the season beginning it is looking more and more hopeful for a return by Tavistock to the Premier league. The present motivation and commitment of the players is good, it is just a matter of maintaining the consistency.
