TAVISTOCK team Condy Mathias have had a slow start in Premier B of the Plymouth and District Netball league.
The ladies narrowly lost their first three matches, so it was a determined Condy side that took to the court against a young and eager Plymouth University side.
Condy Mathias, sponsored by the Tavistock accountants, got off to a slow start at the start of the first quarter and soon found themselves 8-2 down, but in the second quarter Condy started to close the gap; at half-time the Tavistock side were three down. An injury to GA Rosie Fierek saw a position change with GS Sue Holland taking her place,
In the third quater, excellent defence work by GK Nicky Phillips. GD Sam McPherson and WD Helen Hann closed down the Plymouth University attack enabling Condy to draw level; with some accurate passing into the shooting circle by Cathy Guilfey and Helen Hicks, Condy went into the fourth quarter level with University.
It was end to end play, with both teams pulling out all the stops. Sue Holland and Rosie Fierek made every shot count and with the last throw of the game it was a sweet victory for Condy Mathias by 23-22.
