A CHARITY concert organised by a Tavistock College student in aid of the children?s high dependency unit at Derriford Hospital has raised almost £800. The concert was held in the main hall and was hosted by organiser and performer Matthew Eglinton, a rock pianist. Matthew organised the event in aid of the ward, where the young sister of another student was treated for spinal muscular atrophy before she died earlier this year. Matthew said that Ruby Warnett, the 16-month-old, had relied on receiving care from the unit and was treated exceptionally well?. He said: ?I am proud of everyone who took part in the concert and would like to offer my sincere thanks to all who donated money and auction and raffle prizes, and to everyone who helped set the event up and made it happen ? it was a great night and something that will never be forgotten.? Among the performers were the GCSE music class perfoming hits such as Take Your Mamma Out, guitar ace Edd Lane, drummer Mike Morgan, Rory Gilmore, Lucy Hood and many others. Teachers Rosemary and David Turner provided a treat with their rendition of Summer Nights from Grease. Tap dancer Tom Isherwood performed to a blues and jazz melody played by Matthew. As a contrast, there was an auction hosted by Joe Whaley and a male and female cross-dressed catwalk with a surprise teacher guest. The Warnett family thanked everyone who was involved in raising the money and were pleased with the amount raised, as was head of Year 10, David Turner, and principal Colin Eves.
