A FREE event offering residents in the Okehampton area the opportunity to find out about a special community musical is being held in the town this weekend. Okehampton Song Tales, which will be staged in April 2008, will have lots of songs and music in it, and will offer a wide range of opportunities for people of all ages to get involved as actors, singers, musicians, sound and lighting technicians, scenery painters, props and costume managers, and much more. There will be no auditions, and all are welcome, whatever their age, although under fourteens should be accompanied by an adult. The fact-finding day will be held in the Ockment Centre this Saturday between 10am and 5pm. There will be an exhibition of materials researched over the past six months, and performances of songs and music created so far, along with singing, music, and acting workshops for all ages and all abilities. The community musical is being staged by Okehampton music charity Wren Trust, in conjunction with the Ockment Centre, and supported by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Wren staff will be present on Saturday to welcome new and current participants, whether coming for the whole day, or just dropping in for a while to find out more. People who cannot come on Saturday, but who are interested in taking part, should call Wren on 01837 53754, or drop in to the office in St James Street.
