COLLEAGUES, friends and family have been paying tribute to the popular 21-year-old Daniel Hall from South Zeal, who was killed in a road accident on Friday night.
Daniel, who worked at the Oxenham Arms in South Zeal, died after his Peugeot 205 was in collision with a BMW on the A386 near Fowley Cross.
The three passengers in the Peugeot were also injured and remain in the Royal Devon And Exeter Hospital.
The youngest of five brothers, Daniel has been described by his family as a cheerful and hard-working person who lived for his car. His eldest brother Simon, 33, who lives in Preston said: 'He was a great lad — a good brother, a good friend and a good uncle with two nephews and a niece
'Dan had a cheerful personally and he was a level-headed sort of person who really enjoyed his work and he had plans to go up the ladder in catering.'
A former South Zeal Primary School and Okehampton College pupil, Daniel studied a GNVQ in leisure and tourism at Sixth Form and had worked at the Oxenham Arms for four years.
Simon said his brother was a car enthusiast: 'He would show his car at trade events and even featured in a motoring magazine,' he said.
'Any spare money he had would be spent on his car and he really looked after it.'
He said it was a very difficult time for the family, especially as his mother had died two and a half years ago, but they had been supported by all the cards and phone calls from members of the community.
Son of the owner of the Oxenham Arms, George Henry, said he had lost a 'colleague and friend' and all the staff and customers were devastated.
'Daniel helped out with everything at the pub — he was great to have around and full of life,' said Mr Henry.
'There was quite an age difference between us but I counted Daniel as a really good friend and he was 100 per cent reliable.
'He was very popular with all the staff and the guests and it is very hard to come to terms with what has happened.'
Daniel's funeral will be a small family affair and his family have requested that rather than send flowers, donations be made to the Devon Air Ambulance, through Maddafords Funeral Directors of Okehampton.
