WITH reference to the letter 'Shocked by solar panels

removal' (July 31), I feel it is important for your readers to

be aware of the actual decision taken by the planning and

licensing committee on July 22.

The decision taken was that consent would not be given

for the panels that are currently on the roof.

The committee did not refuse the principle of placing

solar panels on the council's Kilworthy Park building nor

did they take a decision to force the council to remove the

panels currently in situ.

We are not dealing with the principles of renewable

energy but with the siting, design and appearance of

these particular panels in this location.

Readers can be assured that I and all my fellow

councillors are fully committed to the principles of

renewable energy, carbon footprint reduction and general

energy-saving measures.

Cllr Philip Sanders,

Chairman

West Devon Borough Council planning and licensing

committee
