THE Spooners and West Dartmoor Pony Club held their triathlon and tetrathlon on the last weekend of July, with competitors coming from as far afield as Penzance and Weston Super Mare.

The Spooners Pony Club fielded three strong teams with some members participating for the first time.

On the first day the running and shooting phases were held at Kelly College and thanks to Mount House for stepping in at the last minute to offer the use of their pool, the swimming event was held in the lovely surroundings of the Mount House school grounds.

The Spooners triathlon team of Myles and Alex Pillage, Rio Jackman and Louise Harrison took first place on the first day with Myles taking first place and Alex third place individually.

On the second day the riding was held at Sampford Spiney and again the sun shone. With all the Spooners riders completing the course the teams were again well placed.

The boys' team of Frankie McKechnie, Will Searle, George Scott and Henry Ware came second to a team of boys from the Western Pony Club and the Spooners Girls team of Megan Groom, Harriet Groom and Lucy Scott came third.

Individually Megan won the junior girls' class with a best swim and clear ride, Henry came second in the minimus boys class with a best swim and clear ride, Frankie, Lucy and George all came third in their respective classes having jumped clear and Will and Harriet were fifth and sixth respectively in their classes.
