HAVING won their previous match in the Plymouth Companies Squash League, Tavistock failed to build on this success when they met a full strength Plymouth City business team.

Number 5, Pete Walshe dropped his first two games against John Cullin, but rallied to win the next 9-3. 9-3. With victory in sight Pete saw the match slip away 3-9 in the deciding game.

Captain Pete Middleton played at number 4 against Martin Carr. After taking the first game with ease Pete was pushed to the limit in the closest match of the night, finally winning 9-7 in the fifth game.

Bob Cowen returned at number 3 after injury to play the previously unbeaten Dave Long. Dave remains unbeaten, as Bob's lack of match practice showed while losing in straight games.

Also returning from injury, Phil Honey played at number 2 and fared little better than Cowen.

The strong Steve Scott won in straight games, though Phil was looking stronger when losing the third game 8-10.

With the match decided in Plymouth's favour it was down to number 1, Steve Tripp, to salvage as many points as possible. Against Jason Holland, Steve won two tough opening games 10-9, 9-6 before Jason found another gear to win the final three games comfortably. Final result: Tavistock 7, Plymouth CB 18.
