ON December 11 at 7.30pm at Milton Abbot Village Hall, a meeting has been called for people to hear and question Planex who are intending to erect a turbine near Cardwell Farm, Longcross, Milton Abbot. This would be the thirrd application for a turbine in this area, with at least another three possible.   There are many questions to be answered and now is the time we are able to put them directly to Planex.  You only have to drive towards Launceston, to Bude and climb part way up Brentor to see the impact these are making on our countryside.  Whilst we all know that we need to seriously find an answer to our energy problems it must be done with knowledge and forethought and not purely on a money grabbing basis. The only people that benefit from the turbines are those asking for planning permission for them.  We get no extra electricity and we pay the subsidies that the firms get via our taxes as it comes from the government as well as paying for the electricity.  If the turbines produced the amount of electricity they say, it may be worth while, but do they?  How many times do we see them still?  When it is too windy, when there's not enough wind, when they don't need the power. Can we store it? No.  Do they get paid when they are turned off?  Yes.  Let us go to this meeting and ask questions.  I look forward to seeing you there.  Chris Harrap Milton Abbot
