DIG out those valuable antiques — the popular BBC2 antiques programme 'Flog It' is coming to West Devon next month. Tavistock Pannier Market will be hosting the Flog It! valuation day on Sunday, February 10 from 9.30am until 4pm. It will be presented by Paul Martin. The major antiques series invites the public to bring along antiques and collectables they are interested in selling. Once valued, the owner and team of three experts decide whether it should go forward for auction and if the item is chosen it is sold a few weeks later. Everyone who goes along to the valuation day will receive a valuation — even if their antiques are not chosen to go forward for auction. Previous programmes have seen a small cream jug sold at auction for £1,300; a ceramic bowl, bought for £4 at a car boot sale, achieving £1,500 — and a lady in Aberdeen sold a Shelley tea-set for £3,400. So to find out how much those boot sale bargains in the loft might be worth, now is the chance to find out. Eddie Carruthers, market reeve, said the event will be held in the middle of the market and should not cause any disruption to traders. He said: 'We are delighted to have been chosen for this event. I think it will be a brilliant thing and nice for the town. I hope everyone will come and see it.' The valuation day is the first part of filming for the programme. Filming of the auction will take place on Tuesday, March 11 at Eldreds Auctioneers and Valuers in Plymouth and will be broadcast as part of the seventh series later in the year. Anyone with a piece of furniture or other large item they would like valued should email a photo and description to [email protected]">[email protected] using 'Furniture Tavistock' as the subject.
