A COMBINED squad of swimmers and team managers from Tavistock Swimming Club and Okehampton Otters competed at this year?s Devon Youth Games.
The competition was divided into school year age groups 4-5s, and 6-7s.
Ten teams competed in the gala at Exmouth pool with two heats for each race.
The morning session started with a quick demonstration from Olympic breaststroker Nick Gillingham.
Highlights of the morning were fifth place for Sam Harmsworth in yr 4-5 boys? 25m fly to 25m back, third place for Jake Broome in yr 6-7 boys? 25m fly to 25m back, sixth place for Charlotte Radnor in yr 4-5 girls? 25m back to 25m breast, and sixth place for Oliver Kirby in yr 4-5 boys? 25m back to 25m breast.
The afternoon session started with both age groups competing with great success in the 50m kick relays.
Individual highlights saw Joshua Hughes battle to sixth place in the boys? 25m freestyle, Jake Broome swimming into third place in the 200m freestyle, Joshua Stephens sixth in the year 4-5 boys? 25m breast to 25m frontcrawl and Mathew Webber taking second place in the year 6-7 boys? 25m breast to 25m frontcrawl.
It was a great team effort from all West Devon Squad members: The young squad of years 4-5 finished in ninth place above Exeter: Eloise Allen, Millie Chinn, Natalie Greep, Charlotte Radnor, Sam Harmsworth, Joshua Hughes, Oliver Kirby and Joshua Stephens. Years 6-7 finishing 7th overall above Plymouth, North Devon and Exeter: Amelia Allen, Francesca Gould, Rebecca Jarvis, Caroline Tuck, Michael Aylen, Jake Broome, Tom Waddington and Mathew Webber.
