Okehampton Ladies Columbines 1
Truro 8
TRURO are a good side and thoroughly deserved to win, but the scoreline did not reflect the effort and teamwork put in by Okehampton.
Truro made their mark early on with their hard hitting and crisp passing, which Okehampton struggled to defend and conceded too many goals in the first half.
Truro were extremely competitive, but in the second half Oke had settled more into their game. Sandy Douglas was able to clear the ball to her forwards with her hard hit, and Grace Thorpe and Hannah Whiteley were willing runners in attack.
Sarah Jones and Jane Jones in particular closed down the Truro right flank, quickly snuffing out much of the danger that had come from that side in the first half.
Truro were always going to win the match, but Okehampton thoroughly deserved a goal which came from a well constructed move which saw Viv Weatherington's strike deflected over the Truro goalkeeper.
Sophie Whiteley had a tremendous game in goal for Okehampton and made a number of acrobatic saves, but Truro were extremely effective in following up on the rebound.
Columbines played with a great deal of spirit and can take comfort from the fact that not all the teams in the league are of such a high standard.
l This week Columbines are away at Caradon.
