Okehampton Columbines Ladies 5 Mannamead Seconds 0 Mannamead have long been a team that Okehampton have found hard to beat but once the game started the home side's play swiftly began to flow in the beautiful sunshine. Captain Alex Collins for Okehampton, playing at left half, prevented several attacks by Mannamead and turned them to her side's advantage with some intelligent passes to left wing Viv Weatherington, who in turn created several dangerous advances. The first goal came from Jo Moppett who lost her marker by holding back and then going for the run strongly supported by her fellow forwards. A text book second goal came when Viv and Jo Moppett worked together with short passes so that Jo drew the players and Viv scored the goal to make it 2-0 at half time. Mannamead came back fired up and it took some stout defending to prevent them scoring. Okehampton had some close calls but determined work by the defence, with some really gritty work by right back Abi Colton, got the ball safely clear again. The pattern of good passing among the forwards continued. The forwards all used the whole width to switch and free themselves up to give plenty of space. Three more goals followed which were largely set up by Jo Moppett and finished off in good style by Viv Weatherington making her total tally four goals. The final score of 5-0 left the Columbines feeling that the 'bete noire' of Mannamead was finally defeated. l Okehampton's next match is a friendly away against Exeter Fourth team.
