Tavistock Colts 25 Wadebridge 7 TAVISTOCK emerged victorious after a typically bruising encounter against old rivals Wadebridge. The home side held their discipline whilst Wadebridge had two players sin binned after repeated warnings by referee Rob Webber. Tavistock opened the scoring with a penalty from full back Euan McCall. Soon after Tavistock attacked at a ruck two metres out and hooker Jake Chinn reacted first on a loose ball to drive over for a try, which McCall converted. Wadebridge then put together their move of the game to score a converted try after a midfield break and some loose tackling by the home side. A further penalty from McCall saw a half time lead of 13-7 to the home side. Wadebridge lost their composure in the second half and Tavistock stand off Andy Smerdon ran 40 metres down the left wing for an unconverted try to put his side further ahead. Soon after Euan McCall took advantage of a right wing overlap to run in a try to take his personal tally of points to 13. Smerdon converted the try. Tavistock's Jason Ward looked strong at loose head prop and new face Shaun Daymond looked hungry for the ball and brought a physical presence to the game. Second row James Lawson put in a number of big hits which unsettled the opposition while No 8 Martin Ryland pulled off a number of tackles from the base of the scrum. Jack Hodges tackled well in the centre and played a sound roll as playmaker and made good use of ball from his scrum half Pat Warlow. Right wing Tom Hancock stood up well in the tackle and showed determination. Man of the match Danny Thompson gave a typical aggressive demonstration at flanker, providing at least six turn over balls and never missed a tackle as well as showing good distribution skills. This was a team victory and the squad looks good for the rest of the season with players coming back from injury.
